Global Gift, who makes his racecourse debut at Chelmsford this evening

Good afternoon from Newmarket! It was a thrill to see Sir Gnet get off the mark at Lingfield yesterday afternoon, and we seek to maintain the momentum with Global Gift in the 7.00 at Chelmsford this evening.

An unraced three-year-old son of Invincible Spirit, he faces a stiff task here against 12 rivals in this seven-furlong maiden. The promising Rux Power of Andrew Balding’s, who was runner-up in a warm contest at Glorious Goodwood last summer, and the 80-rated John Gosden trained White Coat set a strong standard at which to aim at.

We had toyed with the idea of starting Global Gift off at a mile, so there is every chance that this test could prove a little sharp for him around here, but his dam is a sibling of the Gr.3 winning sprinter Do The Honours, so there is ample pedigree evidence to suggest that we are in the right spot.

Global Gift has shown up nicely in his work in recent weeks and is now ready for a racecourse introduction. Getting in amongst the principals today is surely a tall order, but we know the horse has some level of ability, so I am hopeful we will see some encouragement nonetheless.

All the best,
Ed.
