Global Destination

Good morning from Newmarket. We venture all the way to Newcastle today for just the one runner, but hopefully we are travelling with a realistic chance of being competitive. Global Destination gets the call up, in the six-furlong novice for three-year-olds and above at 7.15.

He ran just the once as a two-year-old, when a promising fifth in a Yarmouth novice over six-furlongs. He was a little weak and unfurnished at the time, but showed definite signs of ability, and has been given plenty of time to strengthen since.

There is depth to the form too, as the winner and second are both rated in the 90s, whilst the third home Barys won the Listed Prix de la Californie at Cagnes-Sur-Mer earlier this month. Whilst we are not aiming so high this evening, hopefully the form stands up and Global Destination can go well.

He is by Slade Power, whose progeny are perhaps appreciating a little more time and distance than we might have anticipated, and eventually Destination will probably want seven-furlongs. However, on just his second career outing, the stiff finish over six-furlongs at Newcastle should be ideal.

As is always the case, there are plenty of dangers. James Tate has his string in excellent fettle, so the debutant Wise Words has to be feared, whilst Julie Camacho unleashes a pair of interesting newcomers, including the well-related Marvel. Whether we can cope with these unraced sorts remains to be seen, and one or two others with form to their name could also prove troublesome, but it will be disappointing should Global Destination not go close nonetheless. Dan Muscutt takes the ride.

Best wishes,
Ed.
