Annexation

Good morning from Newmarket. We head to Chelmsford this evening with Annexation, who takes his chance in the seven-furlong 0-65 handicap at 8.00.

A three-year-old son of Wootton Bassett, he was unraced last year but quickly made progress in novice company. After three encouraging runs he earned an official rating of 64, and then looked most unlucky not to get off the mark on his handicap debut at Ayr. A quick turnaround at Lingfield didn’t go quite to plan, although he still ran respectably to take third and it is possible that the short gap between races took the edge off him.

However, much harder to excuse was his disappointing sixth back at Lingfield 12 days ago, a run which left us scratching our heads. He was a little free and lacking cover on that occasion, so hopefully he can be buried in the mid-pack by Rab Havlin this evening, allowing him to conserve some energy for the closing stages. It is still hoped that a mark of 61 is within range, and the horse appears in good form at home. So we are hoping his Lingfield effort was a one-off and that he can prove more competitive again this evening. Fingers crossed for a good run.

All the best,
Ed.
