Grandscape

Good afternoon! I am currently up in Doncaster for the Breeze-Ups, but it has been a busy morning of checking into the office for Saturday’s 48 hour declarations. In the end we have declared seven horses, but more of that on Saturday morning.

Today we rely on Grandscape, who goes in the 5.30 at Chelmsford, a mile and three-quarter 0-75 handicap. This horse has been ridden by our amateur jockey Sophie Smith in recent outings, and the pair have formed a tremendous partnership. However, with no suitable amateur races on the horizon just now, it was felt that Grandscape needed an outing in a professional riders contest to keep him ticking over.

He hasn’t run out of amateur company for some time, so it really will be intriguing to see how he gets on. He is currently rated 72, and it is worth remembering that he wasn’t up to defying that sort of mark as a three-year-old before Sophie started riding him. He seems to be an improved horse now, however, and a mile and three-quarters on the all-weather is probably just the ticket for him. We have run into a competitive little contest, with James Fanshawe’s The Pinto Kid looking a particularly formidable opponent, but hopefully Grandscape can run with credit. Rab Havlin takes the mount.

All the best,
Ed.
