Sir Gnet

Good morning from Newmarket. Just the single runner today in the form of Sir Gnet who returns from a break in the 7.55 at Chelmsford, a mile 0-65 handicap.

A nicely-bred son of Galileo, we hoped he would be off the mark sometime before now, but despite four second place finishes he has never managed to gain that elusive victory. His four-year-old campaign was virtually a washout, as he only ran three times due to various issues, but he showed on his penultimate start at Wolverhampton, when a narrow second, that all his ability was intact.

Fast forward a few months and he returns this evening from an absence of 178 days. This is not the greatest race in the world, and a reproduction of his best form should see him go close, whilst the reports I get back in the mornings tell me a mile is his best trip. The major concern is the fact he has been off for so long. Although he is pleasing in his work, there is no doubt that he will improve physically for the outing and it remains to be seen if he is able to put his best foot forward tonight. Should he do so, then I would like to think he can be very competitive in this grade.

All the best,
Ed.
