Cue's Folly

Good afternoon from Newmarket. We had a bit of rain this morning and it remains to be seen what the weather does generally over the next couple of days.

There has been some rain of late in Wales, which might have dented the chances of Conflagration in the 2.50 at Chepstow today. The ground remains officially good, and I hope they hold on to that, as Conflagration ran terribly on rain-softened ground at Beverley last time out. He had previously won convincingly at Leicester, and I hope his mark of 66, whilst far from generous, is not beyond him.  He has been a fairly inconsistent horse throughout his career, but I would like to think that Chepstow is a more suitable track for him. Martin Harley is booked.

Our only other runner today is Cue’s Folly, also at Chepstow in the two and a quarter mile handicap at 4.30. This is an awfully long way to go for a three-year-old filly against her elders, but she has raced as though she is crying out for an extended trip. Her latest run at Wolverhampton, just seven days ago, confirmed that she lacks gears, as she travelled well in second for much of the journey, but was out-speeded when they quickened off a slow pace. The ground should be fine, the track should play to her strengths judged by her run style and action, and we have booked the in-form apprentice title chasing Nicola Currie. It is a competitive heat and we don’t really know what to expect, but I am looking forward to seeing what Cue’s can do over this sort of distance.

All the best,
Ed.
