Toro Dorado

Good morning from Newmarket, we are back in action after a little break! We ran most of our winter string in the space of three days at the beginning of last week, so we have had to sit on our hands for a little while.

One of those horses running last week was Toro Dorado. He produced a career best to finish second in a mile nursery at Kempton in first time blinkers, although it was frustrating to pull eight lengths clear of the third and still find one too good. The handicapper inevitably took a dim view of the performance, and has raised him by five pounds to a new mark of 67 – but today in the 4.30, again at Kempton, Toro can still compete from his old mark of 62.

So in the end our hand was forced and we really had to run this afternoon. It is sooner than ideal, the opposition contains several unexposed horses that could improve past us, and I don’t know how he will cope with his third run in less than a month. But we have a clear form chance and I would like to think that there is still the scope for progression at this sort of trip. So I look forward to seeing how he gets on, with the blinkers retained and David Probert riding.

All the best,
Ed.
