Three 'Likely Lads' for day one at Goodwood

Mon 25 July 2011

Glorious Goodwood is one of Ed's favourite meetings, and the boss makes no secret of the fact that he is "very excited" about the five days coming up on the rolling Sussex Downs.

He said:"We stay down with my parents (John and Sue) at Arundel, and it is a week that I love, so, hopefully, somewhere along the line we will get lucky, not only with the horses but maybe even in the charity cricket match on Tuesday evening!"

However, reverting to the equine squad heading down the M11, Ed was in optimistic mood. He added:"It has been a lucky place for us over the years - we won the Sussex with Court Masterpiece in 2006 and topped up the celebrations later in the week by taking the other Group 1, the Nassau Stakes, with Ouija Board, and, while Snow Fairy is our major player this time around, we have several interesting contenders between now and Saturday."

"We start off with FAREER in the opener on Tuesday. Maybe, we were flying a bit high in the G2 Summer Mile at Ascot last time, but we have been thinking for a while now about stepping him up in trip, and this looks the right race to experiment. It is not a whim - we think it will suit him, but we will soon find out whether we are right."

"We run BURWAAZ in the G3 Molecomb Stakes. He was arguably unlucky in the Windsor Castle Stakes (5f) at Royal Ascot, and we bumped into one (Harbour Watch) when stepping back up to six furlongs at the Newmarket July meeting. He is colt with plenty of speed, so rather than taking on Harbour Watch again in the Richmond, we thought we'd come back down in trip, but, while we are well drawn in 11, it does look a very competitive race."

"Finally, we introduce a nice two-year-old in the maiden, MUARRAB. He is a lovely Oasis Dream colt who we like a lot, but there are a few in there with the edge in experience, so we'll see."
