Scrutinise slams his rivals at Thirsk!

Mon 07 September 2015

The progressive Scrutinise.

Scrutinise enhanced his progressive profile when slamming nine rivals at Thirsk on Saturday, posting a career-best performance to record his second victory of the summer and land the historical Hambleton Cup by two and a half lengths.

The prize, which commemorates the former Hambleton Hills racecourse that hosted equine action from its inception by James I until 1775, is one of the highlights of the summer at the North Yorkshire venue and rarely can a three-year-old have landed the spoils so easily.

Settled towards the rear by Paul Mulrennan as long-time leader Hickster set only a medium gallop, Scrutinise moved ominously into contention rounding the home turn, and he soon scythed through the field under his motionless jockey to quicken clear inside the two and win eased down.

This was the first time Scrutinise has run on the turf this summer having won once on the all-weather and been runner-up on a further three occasions. However, he clearly relished the dig underfoot and heads into the autumn a relatively fresh horse, where more fanciful targets wouldn’t be out of the equation given the manner of his success here.

Congratulations to all of the partners involved in Thurloe Thoroughbreds, whose patience to wait for the right conditions with this horse have been handsomely rewarded all season. There is no reason why he should not continue to progress for the rest of the calendar year and beyond.
