Bawaader

Good morning from Newmarket. We head to Wolverhampton this afternoon for a single runner.

The horse in question is Bawaader, who goes in the novice for older horses over an extended mile at 2.40, having disappointed us a little on his recent debut at Chelmsford. However, the case for his defence is fairly compelling.

As a four-year-old he was tasked with giving lots of weight away to a nice bunch of three-year-olds, and he was clearly green and overwhelmed by his first racecourse appearance and racing under lights. Although slowly away, in truth it would have been pleasing to see him make a little more headway in the home straight, but we must put that down to experience. He is a big gross horse, who will really improve for the run, and I hope we will see something more positive this afternoon.

Lucy Wadham’s promising Le Havre colt Harbour Breeze and Kevin Frost’s unbeaten Masked Identity are the most obvious amongst several dangerous rivals, so I am under no illusions about the task we are facing. That said, I would hope we will see a step forward from Bawaader in comparison with his first run.

All the best,
Ed.
