Foad

Good morning from Newmarket. We were greeted by misty weather early on this morning, but things have cleared up and we look set for a day of beautiful sunshine.

Yesterday it was a great thrill to see Global Warning win impressively at Newcastle, on his first go in a handicap and in his first race against his elders. He ran strongly through the line, relishing the stiff seven-furlongs and hopefully there is more to come.

Today we have just a single runner to keep us occupied, with Foad heading to Nottingham for his second taste of racecourse action in the two-year-old novice at 5.05. He ran an encouraging race at Leicester just over a fortnight ago, and the winner Zulu Zander franked the form by winning at Bath yesterday.

This is probably a warmer contest though, with a lot of market support for Saeed bin Suroor’s Dubawi colt Making History, whilst Richard Spencer’s Champagne Supanova ran with great promise at Wolverhampton, and there are others of serious interest in the field too.

On his debut Foad was smartly enough away, but then could not quite lie up with the leaders and ran around a little, displaying obvious greenness, before tiring late on. With that in mind, it could be that a draw near to the stands side rail will play to his advantage, and it can certainly help to teach him to race properly. I expect a nice step forward from his debut effort, and hope he can be competitive, but this could be quite a warm contest despite the small field so we are going to the races hopeful rather than confident.

All the best,
Ed.
