Alternative Fact

Good Morning! After a little wait we finally got off the cold list thanks to the excellent success of Global Giant in the Listed Carlingford Stakes at Dundalk yesterday evening. Hopefully we can continue the good work with our two runners this afternoon.

My first runner is Alternative Fact in the mile and a quarter 0-110 handicap at 2.05 at York. This race didn't attract the strength of entries expected, so we have thrown our hat into the ring despite being rated only 96. Of course it is still a very warm race, but our colt has been running consistently well in good handicaps since mid-summer. We have been advised by his riders to try stepping him back down to a mile and a quarter, so hopefully we are at the tright distance this afternoon. The ground could turn quite horible, which is a concern for us like most people I would expect, but he did win his maiden on soft and finished second in a Listed race in France last backend, on ground officially described as very soft.

I hope we are beginning to find the key to the horse, and he ought to be competitive at a nice each way price. My one note of caution would be that he can be a free-going type, so if the ground got particularly testing or sticky then we might be in a bit of trouble. Time will tell, and I am looking forward to the race nonetheless. Charlie Bishop rides.

My second runner is Light of India in the 5.45 at Chelmsford, a mile novice for two-year-old fillies. A daughter of Sepoy out of a winning Acclamation mare, she has shown signs of immaturity, and refused to load on her intended debut at Newmarket and has needed remedial work since. She was sucessfuly loaded at Haydock not so long ago, but fell out the stalls and just ambled around at the back of the field. We were delighted she consented to race that day, but didn't learn too much. Hopefully we will see her break more alertly today and get involved in the heat of the battle. Hollie Doyle takes the mount.

All the best,
Ed.
