Sagely Wins On Handicap Debut

Mon 16 May 2016

Sagely broke her maiden tag at Wolverhampton back in March when comfortably beating subsequent winner Intermittent. Having seen the extended mile trip out well there she stepped up to ten furlongs when making her handicap debut at Ripon yesterday. The daughter of Frozen Power started favourite on the back of her maiden win and she was soon travelling well settled in at the rear of the field under Silvestre De Sousa. He produced her on the outisde to go and win her race at the two furlong marker and she quickened well to win comfortably by five lengths.

Our filly saw out this trip well and we may look for another race over this trip before the handicapper re-assesses her a week on Tuesday. It was not a strong contest but she won well and the handicapper is unlikely to be kind to her. Silvestre De Sousa was winning for us for the seventh time in May from only nine rides.

Congratulations go to her owners The Sages, they have been very patient with Sagely and it is brilliant that their patience has been rewarded. Well done to everybody in the yard for working hard and keeping the momentum going. We currently have a strike rate above 20% in 2016 and that has been due to hard work and many early mornings and late nights.
