Sagely Strikes

Sun 13 March 2016

Sagely provided La Grange with a second winner in three days when winning the 1m fillies’ maiden at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening. Champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa broke quickly from the stalls and then tucked Sagely in behind the Roger Charlton trained favourite Intermittent.  The half-sister to Sagaciously initially showed inexperience when the favourite quickened off the home bend before seeing her race out well to overhaul the favourite close to the line.

The front two pulled a long way clear of the rest but we hope the handicapper will not be too hard on her  as the third Lady Canford is only rated sixty five. She shaped as though a longer trip will suit her in time as she did her best work late in the race. Her half- sister Sagaciously ran very well over twelve furlongs at Newmarket last July. Sagely showed us she had ability when second at Wolverhampton last September and it was lovely to see her step up from that run.  We will see what mark the handicapper allots her and find a race for her once she tells us that she is ready to run again.

Unfortunately Mrs Dunlop could not make it to Wolverhampton as she was delayed at Martha’s netball match and did not manage to get there in time. She has ridden Sagely every day and has done a fantastic job in getting her ready for her seasonal debut. Congratulations must also go to her owners The Sages, we hope that more successes lie ahead in 2016.
