Red Verdon enjoying some well earned R+R

Red Verdon headed to Haydock for the one and a half mile Choice Teachers handicap on the back of an impressive win at Chester earlier in May. The ease in the ground was not a concern as the son of Lemon Drop Kid had proved he could handle some give under foot when unlucky on his first run of the season at Doncaster. He was soon travelling well in third under George Baker as the front pair set a sensible pace in front. As the race began in earnest our colt was asked to pick up the leaders and he soon got to their quarters and then when he was asked to pull away from them he readily moved clear before being eased to win by five lengths.

This was another impressive performance from our horse and he is progressing significantly with racing. The second favourite Mainstream was very disappointing but the manner in which Red Verdon went clear of his rivals suggests that he would be worthy of a step up in class at some stage in the future. The handicapper is likely to take a dim view of this performance and he will go up in the weights significantly. He is entered in the King George V handicap at Royal Ascot and there are other options open to him which would require a supplementary entry to be made.

Mr Arculli has now had eight winners with us this season and he is closing in on his highest UK total of ten, set back in 2005. Red Verdon looks to be an exciting horse and it is fantastic to have a good horse for such a loyal supprter of the yard. Well done to everyone here at La Grange, it is something that keeps getting repeated but there is a lot of behind the scenes work that leads to Saturday winners and everyone has been working very hard.
