Red Continues Amazing Run

Amazing Red

La Grange celebrated a fourth winner in 10 days on Saturday as Amazing Red and Frankie Dettori raced to a three and a half-length success in the valuable class 2 John Sunley Memorial Handicap over a mile and three-quarters at HQ.

Amazing Red was always travelling kindly and took it up over a furlong out, before quickening away to record an impressive victory and secure the £31,000 prize. With progressive young stayers Golden Wolf and Alqamar following him home, the form looks worthy of close attention.

Amazing Red was registering his second victory of the season and fourth in total, and doing so from a career high mark of 93. All roads now lead to the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on the 30th June, and although Amazing Red currently sits at number 54 on the list of entries (with a maximum field size of 20) a five pound penalty incurred for this latest victory increases his chances of getting in significantly.

Owned by The Hon. Ronnie Arculli, Amazing Red was a 220,000gns graduate of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale in 2013, and is a half-brother to former legendary La Grange pupil Red Cadeaux, winner of the Gr.1 Hong Kong Vase, a three-time runner-up in the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup and the winner of the best part of £5m in prize money. Their dam Artisia was a half-sister to the outstanding dual Gr.1 winning Hong Kong performer Military Attack (known as Rave when racing in the UK) and the dual Gr.3 winning sprinter and sire Almaty, from the family of 1985 Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Al Bahathri and her 2,000 Guineas and Champion Stakes winning son Haafhd.

Congratulations to all of the team at La Grange and Mr Arculli. The season is in full swing now and winners are beginning to arrive thick and fast!
