Red Cadeaux and Mosse team up for Japan Cup

Wed 21 November 2012

RED CADEAUX is reported to be in good shape after emerging from Shiroi quarantine facility yesterday ahead of his tilt at the Japan Cup and permission has been granted for club jockey Gerald Mosse to be absent from Hong Kong in order to partner him in the Group 1 event. Mosse also holds a firm engagement to ride the six year old in the Longines Hong Kong Vase should he participate.

Following an unsuccessful bid at the Melbourne Cup at the beginning of the month, connections are hopeful of a strongly run race, as he is a horse that needs a good steady tempo and Sunday's race over a mile and a half could well be run to suit him. Red Cadeaux was one of many horses who failed to get into a challenging position in Australia due to a sedate pace, but he finished with his usual flourish to get within five and three quarter lengths of the winner.

He takes on third placed Jakkelberry and fifth placed Mount Athos again this weekend so it will be no easy task, however travelling head lad Robin Trevor Jones is happy with him, "The spacing between his last race and the Japan Cup shouldn't be too much for him, as he was so fresh and put his weight back on so much that we did some strong work on him on the Friday before he left Australia. We'll just do some light work today and his gallop will depend very much on how firm the turf turns up—I hear that we may have some rain on Thursday, in which case he may have a gallop on the turf on Friday, otherwise if the turf is very firm, we'll do some long canters over the dirt."
