On The Bill Is Now Off The Bill

On The Bill Dead Heats

On The Bill headed to Kempton Park on the back of a promising debut run over one mile at Windsor. He showed up well for the majority of the race before tiring late on to finish fourth. We felt that he had shown enough speed to be competitive over seven furlongs and Silvestre De Sousa soon had him tracking the leaders from his plum draw. As they entered the home straight the Champion waited until just over a furlong out before picking up the long time leader Roccor and kicking for home. It looked like a winning move but the debutants Highland Dragon and Run To The Hills came at him fast and late with the William Haggas trained Highland Dragon getting there to force a dead heat on the line, Run To The Hills was a nose back in third in a thrilling finish.

This was a game effort from our gelding and it will be hard for the handicapper to be too harsh on him when he receives a mark next week as the fourth and fifth were both within two lengths. The speed the son of Kyllachy showed suggested that there may be no need to step him back up to a mile and seven furlongs could be his optimum trip at present.

On The Bill is named by The Old Etonian syndicate after a disciplinary process at Eton where a misbehaving pupil is placed 'On The Bill' and has to go and see a Senior Master to receive his punishment. He has earnt himself a lot of carrots and polos after this performance and there will be no laps of the heath for him in his plimsolls this morning. His owners have been extremely patient with him and it is fantastic that patience has been rewarded. He was the 30th La Grange trained winner in 2016 and we hope we can keep the momentum up as we move towards June.
