Mudallel Starts To Deliver

Thu 17 August 2017

Mudallel made a promising debut at Newmarket last season but had been mainly disappointing in 2017 until showing promise last week over 7f at Kempton. He did his best work late and went down by under a length in a bunch finish. The son of Invincible Spirit relaxed well last Wednesday and stepping him up to one mile seemed to be the logical move.

We sent him back to the Sunbury venue last night to contest the 1m handicap at 8:10. James Doyle dropped him in from his wide draw in stall eleven and the leaders thankfully went an honest gallop in the early stages of the race. Mudallel travelled well into the straight and Doyle used all his skill to make sure our horse got a clear run as the field quickened for home. He made his challenge on the outside and drew away to win by just under four lengths.

This was a big step in the right direction from our horse, he has always had a lot of scope and we hope he will now progress. The second and third had troubled passages and so we may have been a little flattered by the winning margin but this was an authoritative display and it was very pleasing to see him break his Maiden. The handicapper is likely to move him to a mark around the 80 level and if he comes out of this race well then it may be we run him under a six pound penalty as there are options for him in the middle and towards the end of next week.

Congratulations to Mudallel’s owner Mr Saaed Al Naboodah who has been a big supporter of La Grange this season. Well done to everyone here at Ed Dunlop Racing, a lot of work has gone into Mudallel to get him to relax and hopefully he it will continue to be rewarded moving forward.
