Mudallel Magic From Moore

Tue 14 August 2018

Mudallel

Ryan Moore delivered Mudallel right on the post to deliver us our 21st winner of the season at Chelmsford on Tuesday the 14th of August.

Mudallel broke well and was keen to get on with things early, but Ryan did a fine job at getting him settled. Unfortunately, the race got rather messy going down the back straight and Mudallel was one of the chief sufferers in some serious scrimmaging. He was shuffled towards the back of the five runner field, and was left quite a bit to do once they quickened up turning for home.

Even with a furlong to run it seemed as though there would not be enough track left for Mudallel to catch the leaders, but Ryan was able to conjure a devastating late run to lead on the post, beating The Eagle’s Nest by a head. It was a victory somewhat reminiscent of Mudallel’s two victories at Kempton last year, and confirmed once again his strong liking for artificial surfaces rather than turf. Interestingly, his style of racing even hints that a step up to a mile and a quarter might not be out of the question, for all that he has the pace to compete at seven furlongs.

Mudallel is a son of the great Invincible Spirit, out of the Gr.3 winning Slickly mare Lixirova. The further family contains a good many black-type performers, many of whom did stay a mile and a quarter or beyond, albeit they were more stoutly-bred on the sire side. The future for Mudallel is very much in the handicappers hands, but after an inauspicious start to the season, it is hoped that this win from a mark of 80 is one from which he can progress, rather than representing the limit of his talents.

We send our warmest congratulations to his owner, Mr Abdullah Al Nboodah, and thank all the staff in the yard for their continued hard work.
