Washing off.

Quite a pleasant afternoon.

I hope you all enjoyed a good weekend. The Newmarket XI recorded victory against the House Of Commons yesterday, a side that included local MP Matthew Hancock and Boris Johnson’s brother. The win provided some relief to the pain of watching England take a thumping off Australia – the rest of the series will be a real test of character for Cook and his men.

Sharaakah became our second juvenile winner of the summer when she landed the fillies’ maiden auction here on Saturday. The race didn’t look particularly strong on paper, but our filly turned in quite an impressive performance with Joe Fanning only giving her one smack and the front two pulling clear. It will be interesting to see how the handicapper rates her tomorrow and we will probably look at nurseries now.

No runners today but Naizah lines up in the mile fillies’ maiden at Chelmsford tomorrow evening.

Zarwaan has been confirmed for the International Handicap at Ascot on Saturday but the ground will dictate our plans. We made a further ten entries for the weekend including Qeeyadah in a conditions race at the July Course.

Errant weather has made The Open a logistical nightmare for the tournament’s organisers but we are in for a superb final day with plenty still holding a realistic chance. Amateur Paul Dunne probably didn’t sleep that well last night, and whatever happens today he won’t be a penny richer, but it would be marvellous sporting story if he could land the spoils. Enjoy!

Back tomorrow.
