Zauffaly: lines up in the mile maiden at Chelmsford this afternoon.

Colder than usual but fresh with clear skies first thing.

I hope you all enjoyed a good weekend. It was wonderful to see AP McCoy collect the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sports Personality Of The Year ceremony yesterday evening. His acceptance speech was simply marvellous and he continues to be the leading ambassador for racing even in his retirement.

We saddle one runner at Chelmsford this afternoon as Zauffaly makes his fourth start in the mile maiden. It looks a warm contest with lots of likely types in there, but to be running in a £19,000 added event four days before Christmas having only had to travel an hour down the road is far too good an opportunity to turn down.

Our horse sets the standard on the figures with a rating of 75 and we would like to think he can step forward again given the extra furlong. Being drawn in eight isn’t perfect, and the likes of Imperial Aviator, Boethius and Dwight D all look capable of improvement, but hopefully Zauffaly will run his race and give his enthusiastic syndicate members some festive cheer.

On that note, this will be the last blog before Friday so can I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2016!

Back soon.
