Baasha tries his luck this evening

Good morning from Newmarket. We are met with bright sunshine once again today and the lovely weather is bringing the horses forward no end as we look towards the turf season, which is not far away now.

Having said that, it is likely to be a quiet week on the racing front for La Grange Stables, with Baasha in the 9.5 furlong 0-65 handicap at 7.55 at Wolverhampton this evening our only runner in the next day or two.

Baasha has generally been a consistent performer this winter, winning at Chelmsford in January, but he has thrown in one or two very poor performances as well, including when a long last at Chelmsford only last week. That was a bitter disappointment, but it was in 0-80 company, which is a little above his pay grade, and the race didn’t pan out as he needs a good deal of cover and a strong pace to run off.

He got neither of those last week, but today’s race ought to prove much more to his liking, and we have secured the services of Oisin Murphy which is a major plus. Wolverhampton is a track that ought to play to his strengths too, so I am hopeful of an improved showing this evening.

Best wishes
Ed.
