Gallopers

Good morning from Newmarket!

A low-key Monday, with Reddiac our only runner in the 4.20 at Leicester. This seven furlong 0-70 nursery will hopefully be an appropriate level for him to show a little more than on his last couple of starts. He has been a frustrating sort to this point, as he has often shown a bit at home but some of his racecourse efforts have been indifferent. He ran ok on debut in a race won by Calyx, and the form took another boost at the weekend as Khadeem ran out a very impressive winner at Newmarket. We were just three places behind Khadeem that day, and on Reddiac’s second appearance he was a close-up third to the subsequent Gr.2 Vintage Stakes winner Dark Vision. A literal reading of those efforts suggests Reddiac is extremely well-handicapped on a mark of 69, but he then finished out the back of the television at Windsor and Goodwood.

Admittedly at Goodwood he was very poorly drawn in the widest stall, and he ran a more encouraging race than his finishing position suggests, gaining the compliments of his rider in the process. If he can build on that effort, then he should have a little each way chance this afternoon. That is certainly a big if, but we have secured the services of Jamie Spencer, who is hopefully just the man to coax the very best out of Reddiac.

Best wishes,
Ed.
