Baasha

Good afternoon from Newmarket. We greet October with one runner today, namely Baasha in the 8.45 at Kempton.

A reasonably promising two-year-old for us last year, he showed definite ability when a narrow third at Brighton on his final start of last season, and he wasn't beaten too far when finishing in the midfield behind Ghaiyyath prior to that. Those efforts suggested we had a nice prospect on our hands for this season, but he was virtually tailed off in two runs early on this year. We were left scratching our heads after two such deplorable runs.

That led to a trip to the sales, but I bought back Baasha (who now races for a partnership), as I felt there was a little bit of ability lurking. He has had a wind operation in the meantime, which will hopefully allow him to return to his best and put behind him his early season disappointments, whilst his mark of 65 does not look insurmountable. We are clearly on a recovery mission, but I don't think the horse is a lost cause just yet, so it will be interesting to se how we get on this evening and i am hoping for signs of encouragement. Rab Havlin rides.

All the best,
Ed.
