Decoration of War

A cloudy but dry morning in Newmarket, brightening up as the day progresses we are told. Let’s hope that is a good omen for the football later on!

For those not fixated on events in Russia, or at least looking for a distraction, we have two runners this evening at Nottingham. Arctic Spirit runs in the 5.50, a six-furlong two-year-old fillies’ novice auction event. Edwin and Margaret Lee’s daughter of Intello is only small, but tries her heart out. She ran with promise at Newmarket on debut, before improving to take a respectable fourth at Leicester last time out in a competitive heat. Similar improvement from start two to three will hopefully see her go well, though she needs to find it with previous winner Delft Dancer and the promising Stay Classy setting a fairly good standard. David Probert takes the mount.

At 7.50 we run Decoration of War in a 10F 0-60 three-year-old handicap. He didn’t race at two, but has already had three runs this spring to qualify for a mark of 58. He was fairly well-beaten on all three occasions, but each race he has contested has been won by a potential Stakes horse. This trip on fast ground should be more suitable for Decoration Of War, and his dam is a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner Special Ring, who continued to improve with age. With Martin Harley taking the ride, I hope to see a little improvement this evening.

All the best,

Ed.
