Armum

Good afternoon from Nemarket. Just the one runner today, Armum in the 6.10 at Wolverhampton this evening, but that provides a good opportunity to reflect on recent events.

After an up and down season, plagued by sickness amongst the string earlier in the year, and a lot of seconds, Saturday proved reflection of the season as a whole. We went to the races with several chances, but came away with mixed results at best! Manjaam ran a reasonable race in the Shergar Cup, proving his stamina with a staying on fifth, and that does open up options further down the line. Yes Can Do showed some lovely encouragement on her racecourse debut, though Mr Gent was a bitter disappointment at Redcar.

Alternative Fact, one of our best three-year-olds, ran another solid race when second in a mile and a quarter 0-100 handicap at Newmarket, though he could not live with the extremely impressive winner Danceteria. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the fact that Global Warning found one too good in his novice event at Lingfield. He had made a decent debut at Doncaster, but was dismissed by six lengths by the Richard Hannon-trained Kuwait Currency – again, the winner might be very smart. Although disappointing to be beaten, we can take solace from the fact that we have two nice horses in Alternative Fact and Global Warning, and look with excitement to the future.

Our latest spell of seconditis is unlikely to end today, as Armum is a 33/1 shot. A useful two-year-old, she had a few physical issues that kept her off the track until the end of July. Although ultimately last of five on her Newbury return, the winner Goodnight Girl is in rampant form at the moment, and we learned that Armum needs a step up to seven furlongs, as she simply couldn’t go the sprinters pace. The combination of that rise in trip and a three pound drop in the weights suggests that she should go better this evening, and it is hoped that we will see some encouragement from her as we look towards the second half of the season and try to map out her campaign.

All the best,
Ed.
