Sageness

It has been another bright and sunny morning at HQ with the prospect of another mainly dry week ahead. Our runners on Saturday all performed with merit, but it was the redoubtable Amazing Red who proved to be the highlight of the day at Newmarket. Always travelling well in the hands of Frankie Dettori, he stayed on to pull clear in the final furlong to win by a comfortable 3 ½ lengths. I congratulate Mr Arculli and now we will aim for races like the Northumberland Plate and the Ebor. He has proven his ability to compete at those levels and deserves a crack at one of the top staying handicaps.

Today’s sole runner from La Grange is Sageness when she lines up in the 1m3½f ‘Johnnie Walker Black Handicap’ (7.50) at Windsor. Owned by The Sagacious Lot, this will be her fifth racecourse start today. She ran her best race thus far when 4th at Redcar in May, and I hope she can continue this upward trajectory. Partnered today by Adam Kirby, she has been a little unlucky with the draw in stall 10, but a good break will help with this. With luck, I am hoping she will have an EW chance.

All the best,

Ed.
