Mixed luck for Ronald Arculli

Tue 21 September 2010

RED GULCH won and RED CADEAUX finished second, making it a Saturday of mixed fortune for owner Ronald Arculli, the former chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, who runs so many of his horses with the Red prefix.

Ed said: "I was really pleased how well Red Gulch won the seven furlong handicap at Newbury, but the handicapper seemed to be similarly impressed as he put him up 8lb to a mark of 83."

"Red Cadeaux also looked all over the winner when he hit the front in the Cesarewitch Trial at Newmarket, but he was run down in the last 200 yards by Theola, who was receiving 20lb."

"According to the handicapper, that was the best run of Red Cadeaux's career as he has gone up another pound (99), but he can run off his old mark in the Cesarewitch if we choose to go back on October 16, and we'll see what the ground is nearer the time. He certainly got the trip well enough."
