Michael's Makes It Count At Catterick

Wed 26 October 2016

Michael's Mount the day after his Catterick win.

Michael’s Mount went on the overnight trip to Catterick in search of soft ground. He had been engaged at Great Yarmouth the previous week but racing was abandoned there before his intended race was run and so he headed up North. He was soon settled towards the rear of the field by Graham Lee from his wide draw and travelled sweetly in the early stages of the race. He edged into contention and was just behind the leaders as the field tracked across to the stands rail down the home straight. Our son of Mount Nelson took it up before the final furlong pole and saw the trip out well to win by just under two lengths at the line.

This was a second win in 2016 for Michael’s Mount and it was a career best performance from our gelding. We will now look forward to the 2017 campaign with him and we hope he will thrive in the Spring when the ground will hopefully be soft, he has now headed on his Winter holidays. The handicapper has raised him six pounds to a mark of 79 but the manner of this victory suggests that he should be able to be competitive off of his new mark in the future.

Many congratulations to Michael’s Mount’s owners the Miltil Consortium, we hope he can bring you more success next year and progress up the handicap ranks. This was winner number forty eight for the 2016 season and we hope we can reach the fifty winner mark in the near future. We have a healthy number of Yearlings coming into La Grange and we hope that we can build on what has been a productive season in 2017.
