Magdalene Fox Can't Be Caught

Fri 06 January 2017

Magdalene Fox

Magdalene Fox dropped to six furlongs for the first time yesterday at Wolverhampton and the move worked the oracle as he made every yard of the running to break his Maiden under Adam Kirby. He was drawn widest of all in stall nine but the son of Foxwedge was smartly away and was soon able to dictate affairs at a sensible pace. He kicked for home off of the home bend and established a healthy lead over the field. In The Spotlight threatened to close but our colt had enough in reserve to hold on by half a length at the line.

This was an improved display from Magdalene Fox after he did too much early on in his last race at Chelmsford when trapped wide. The drop back to six furlongs helped him and the most significant factor was that he was able to establish an easy lead. The form of the race is not strong but the right horses filled the places behind him and if the handicapper is realistic he should be able to remain competitive in the future.

Congratulations to the Countess of Wessex and Mr Foden on your colt's victory. This was our first win of the 2017 campaign and it is fantastic to get onto the scoreboard early on in the season. We have around ten horses to run during the all-weather season and we hope we can get some more winners before the turf campaign starts. Well done to everyone at La Grange, the mornings have been getting colder recently but everyone has been working very hard.
