Kafoo Scores

Wed 01 June 2016

Kafoo headed to Lingfield yesterday to contest the 7f 0-70 handicap, seeking to redeem himself after a disappointing display at Bath previously. He had excuses at Bath as there was heavy rain in the preceding hours before the race and he did not seem to face the first time blinkers. Paul Hanagan gave him a positive ride as he broke well from the gates and secured the lead as he approached the first bend. He was then able to dictate the pace at the head of affairs and left enough in reserve to repel the strong challenge of Wakame to hold on by a short-head in the gathering gloom.

It was a likeable performance from the son of Dansili and he showed a good attitude under pressure in the final furlong of the race. Given he has only won by the narrowest of margins the assessor cannot be too hard on him and he should remain on a competitive mark. He was dropping in trip here to seven furlongs but a mile should not inconvenience him in the future.

Congratulations to Kafoo's owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, he has been a big supporter of ours and we hope we can build on this success and train many winners for Sheikh Hamdan in the second half of the season. Kafoo's victory on the last day of May meant we had sixteen winners during the month with a double on 1,000 Guineas day starting the ball rolling. We are crossing our fingers we can keep the momentum going in June and it would be fantastic to get some sunshine to help bring the horses on.
