Global Makes Giant Strides

Sat 15 July 2017

Global Giant

Global Giant made his debut at Newmarket’s July course just under three weeks ago. He travelled well on that occasion and shaped with a deal of promise when finishing third. He returned to the Summer venue to contest what is normally a very competitive 7f Maiden at Newmarket’s Moet & Chandon July meeting.

Our colt fly leapt out of the gates and then bumped into another rival which meant he had to be dropped in on the rail at the rear of the field. The free going Bustam set an honest gallop upfront and towed the field along in the early stages. Our son of Shamardal started to close between the three and two furlong markers and made his challenge on the outside as he approached the final furlong. He just got the better of a sustained duel with Tribal Quest right on the line and the pair pulled nearly three lengths clear of Bustam.

This was an impressive performance from Global Giant and the way he battled suggested he is a horse with a future. The time was very good in comparison to the first division of the 7f Maiden and given Tribal Quest got the run of the race tracking the leader our colt’s win can be upgraded.

It is hard to rate the performance with a figure given how keen Bustam was in front but a figure in the mid 90s would probably be fair. There were some good looking horses in behind and this is a Maiden that will produce many future winners. The filly (Cape Bunting) that beat Global Giant on debut won very easily by five lengths under a penalty at Musselburgh yesterday evening to help solidify his form. He is likely to not be over raced this season as he looks to be a horse that will improve as he matures and he should make a lovely three year old.

Congratulations to Dr Johnny Hon the owner of Global Giant. As the colt was purchased at the Tattersalls Book1 October sale this victory also secured a £25,000 Book1 bonus and he also qualified for the £10,000 Plus10 bonus in addition. We hope your colt can continue to progress and he looks an exciting prospect. This win has given everyone at La Grange a real boost and it brought up our twenty fifth winner of the 2017 season.
