Global Gift Continues His Winning Run

Thu 13 June 2019

Global Gift recovering from his efforts!

Global Gift confirmed that his victory at Carlisle a fortnight ago was no fluke by beating a small but select field in the mile 0-90 at Haydock yesterday afternoon. His success took our tally to the year for 13 and continued the positive start we have made to the month of June.

Having made light of his opening mark of 75 last time out, a six pound higher rating and stiffer opposition was surely going to make things significantly tougher for Global Gift in yesterday’s event?

Ridden by Gerald Mosse, Gift tracked the pace setting Divinity, finding a nice position tucked in on the rail. They were content to wait and bide their time until the two pole, at which point Global Gift moved up to a clear second place, Gerald alive to the possibility of Divinity getting loose in the lead.

Any concern that the leader had got away was short lived, however, as Global Gift quickly closed the deficit just over a furlong out and then made light of conditions and powered a length and a half clear of his field inside the final furlong. The other three finished virtually in a line, and there was no doubting the superiority of Global Gift at the weights.

Having now taken his career record to two wins from five starts, it will be interesting to see how the handicapper responds. We can expect a mark in the mid-80s after this, although hopefully he will still be eligible for 0-90 contest like the race he won yesterday. Although very closely related to the high-class sprinter Do The Honours, and by a Gr.1 winning sprinter in Invincible Spirit, it is evident that Global Gift relishes every inch of the mile and he may yet get further in time.

This talented colt has done us proud in recent weeks, and hopefully he has not stopped improving just yet. He remains one to look forward to for the second half of the year, though we may take our time with him over the coming weeks. He has shown a penchant for soft ground recently, but there is no reason to believe he would not handle a decent surface either.

We send our warmest congratulations to Global Gift’s owner Dr Johnny Hon, and thank all the staff in the yard for their continued hard work.
