Shawaaheq

Good afternoon from Newmarket. There is some excellent racing at Newmarket this afternoon and we are looking forward to a busy weekend when we are lucky enough to be involved in the Cambridgeshire, and several other interesting races.

Today, however, our interest is confined to the 7.00 at Newcastle, a mile 0-80 handicap in which Shawaaheq bids for his third success of a productive season.

This gelded three-year-old son of Tamayuz made rapid strides earlier in the year, winning a Beverley novice over seven and a half-furlongs, finishing second in a competitive Chelmsford handicap back over seven and then stepping up to a mile to win decisively in handicap company at Lingfield. Those efforts took him to a career high mark of 79, and he proved just a little out of his depth when going back over seven-furlongs at Ascot last time out.

The handicapper has given no relief, so this time we hope that a step up back up to a mile and drop from 0-85 to 0-80 company can make all the difference. He is a tough and hardy sort who always runs his race, and there should be no excuses today as conditions will be in his favour. We can trust that he will give a good account and hopefully he will not be too far away.

All the best,
Ed.
