Dutch Uncle

Dutch Uncle stepped back up in trip and dropped in grade when contesting a nine and a half furlong 0-85 Wolverhampton handicap yesterday afternoon. The son of Dutch Art initially led in the early stages of the race but Spes Nostra was soon in the lead and George Baker was able to get some cover and relax our gelding. He travelled sweetly throughout the contest and when the gap did not open on the rail Baker did not panic and soon switched him to the outside. Dutch Uncle hit the front entering the final furlong and won comfortably by one and a half lengths from the staying on Final.

It was fantastic to see Dutch Uncle back in the winning circle as he has a lot of talent and has proved frustrating at times. The handicapper will more than likely move him to his career high mark of 87 and we will more than likely step him back up in grade when he is next seen. We hope this win will boost our gelding's confidence and that he can be competitive in a higher grade next time. He certainly travels like a horse who can hold his own in better company.

Congratulations to the Hon Mr Ronnie Arculli who owns Dutch Uncle. We hope this is the first of many winners for you in 2017. It could be an exciting season with Amazing Red and Red Verdon amongst Mr Arculli's horses stabled here at La Grange this season. Well done to everyone in the yard for keeping going despite the recent cold weather, it will not be long until the weather gets warmer and the turf season starts.
