Destination Doubles Up with Stylish Brighton Success

Wed 26 June 2019

Global Destination confirmed himself an improved performer by following up his recent Newbury success with a convincing victory at Brighton yesterday afternoon in the seven-furlong 0-70 three-year-old handicap.

Breaking smartly from stall two, Destination was immediately travelling strongly and a little keen in Gerald Mosse's hands, however, it didn’t take long for them to find a nice rhythm and they settled into second place tracking the pace setter Moveonup.

Global Destination had to be niggled to find top gear running down the hill – perhaps not in love with the track - and the acceleration wasn’t obviously immediate, but by the two pole he had mastered Moveonup and was in the lead. Pressure was applied on his outer by the running on Tarrzan, and for a fleeting moment it perhaps looked as though Destination was vulnerable, as he did not put daylight between himself and the field. However, we needn’t have worried, as he sees the seven-furlongs out really strongly and he always maintained the upper hand on his way to a cosy three-quarter length success.

This was another step forward from the son of Slade Power, who had disappointed earlier in the year, but has been turned inside out by tinkering with his wind and a gelding operation.

He had delighted us by scoring tenaciously at Newbury a fortnight ago, showing a real liking for soft ground and hinting that he could stay further. A five pound rise was not enough to stop him yesterday, and once again he suggested that an extra furlong might be within his compass, and that easy ground is favourable. Indeed, Gerald reported after the race that even softer ground would have suited him better.

So we now await the handicapper’s verdict once again, but given that this was a relatively weak contest for the grade, and the fact that the runners in behind finished in a heap, it will be disappointing should his new mark be too punitive. Now we have found the key to this horse, it is hoped that he can continue to go the right way and hopefully he has not finished winning just yet.

We send our warmest congratulations to Global Destination’s owner Dr Johnny Hon, whose horses are enjoying a good run of form, and thank all the staff in the yard for their continued hard work. This was our fourth winner of the month and hopefully we can continue the good work in the coming weeks.
