Cape Premier Yearling Purchases

Sat 26 January 2013

Ed Dunlop purchased five yearlings at the 2013 Cape Premier Yearling Sale Book 1 in Cape Town on Thursday and Friday.

"I came over for the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate and thought it would be a good idea to put together an international syndicate to race some horses here.  Johnny Wetherby was here with me and he also got involved.  The horses will be trained here and if they are any good they will come over to me in the UK," he said.

Lot 21, Eternal Love, a bay colt by Antonius Pius was knocked down for R700,000. He is out of the West Man mare Pledge, and is a half-brother to Group 3 winner Promises To Keep.

"It is the first horse I have ever bought in South Africa. It is a good horse from a new stallion," Ed said.

Lot 32, Kingvolt, is by Western Winter and a three parts brother to triple Group 1 winner Set Afire and from the family of July winner Royal Chalice.

Lot 51, Seize The Throne, is by South African Horse of the Year, Dynasty and out of the Listed winner and Group 3 placed, Size Em Up. This colt is also a half-brother to Group 3 placed filly, Up To The Moon and Listed placed filly, Size Does Count.

Lot 97, Red Disa, another R700,000 purchase, is a filly by Captain Al out of Zeigler. She is a half-sister to five time winner and Group 1 placed, Tick Tock.

Lot 175, Seven Grand, is a filly by Seventh Rock out of the six time winner and multiple Group placed Grand Velvet Bay (a half sister to ten time winner and Listed placed Royal Marquet.)
