Burwaaz flies the flag on Day One

Wed 06 July 2011

Our July meeting is one of the most popular in the racing calendar, so let us hope that the rain stays away for the next three afternoons at least, so as we can all enjoy top racing, the traditional Caribbean steel band and who knows, a glass or two of Pimms to celebrate a winner.

BURWAAZ flies the flag for La Grange Stables on day one and Ed has decided to run Sheikh Hamdan's colt in the conditions race rather than the more prestigious July Stakes. He said: "Burwaaz was arguably unlucky in the Norfolk at Royal Ascot, being beaten less than three lengths and winning his race against the small group who raced on the stands side. A better draw that day and who knows but he is a bonny colt with a fantastic temperament and though we discussed the idea of going for the Group 2 with Angus Gold and Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, it was agreed that we should take the softly softly approach and if all goes well, we could then consider the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood."
