Booshbash Makes Her Mark At Chelmsford

Tue 22 November 2016

Booshbash on her return home yesterday

Booshbash dropped back to a mile at Chelmsford yesterday afternoon having found the stiff 1m2f too far at Newcastle a week ago. The daughter of Dark Angel has been threatening to shed her Maiden tag on a couple of occasions and finally did so when winning the opening contest on the card at 1:50. Martin Harley settled her behind the leaders and he produced her in the straight with a sustained run to wear down the eventual second How’s Lucy.

It was a good performance from our filly given that she had to make up a lot of ground to overhaul the Nursery debutant How’s Lucy. Whilst this was only a 0-60 it was encouraging that the second and third were the two most unexposed horses in the field which suggests there is hope that our filly can be competitive again once reassessed. The handicapper cannot be too hard on her for a length victory but it will now mean that she will have to move up into 0-65 or 0-70 company.

She is a well related filly and this victory will ensure that she will have value as a broodmare in the future. Her dam Surrey Storm is a half-sister to the Group 3 placed Mitchum Swagger and the Listed winner Andry Brusselles. Surrey Storm’s best form was over twelve furlongs and she is by Montjeu so despite being by a sprinter, Booshbash should improve for a step up in trip when she strengthens at three. Our grey is a first foal and Godolphin bought her half-brother by Kodiac for 200,000 Guineas at the October Yearling Sales whilst her full sister was recently withdrawn from the Goffs foal sale.

Congratulations to Mr Mohammed Jaber the owner of Booshbash. This was his seventh La Grange trained winner in 2016 and he has had his best season as an owner in the UK since he started owning horses here back in 1997. He has been a big supporter of the yard and has recently been very active at the yearling sales, so we hope to have many more successes for Mr Jaber in the future. This was a significant milestone too as the win brought up fifty winners for the year, well done to everyone here at La Grange.
