Blushes Spared As Red Strikes At Newcastle

Sat 11 March 2017

Blushing Red was a close second in a Wolverhampton Maiden recently and we took him to Newcastle to contest a 1m4f Maiden where he looked to hold strong claims on the form book. Many jockeys are fearful of making the running at Newcastle and so we knew before the race that there was a strong possibility that the race may be run at a crawl. There was no gallop for the majority of the race and Josephine Gordon did her best to find cover and settle our son of Le Havre but he was very free throughout as the field ambled along. The sprint for home began just over two furlongs out and after finding his stride our colt got there in the final half furlong and ultimately won a shade comfortably from the fast finishing Sugarloaf Mountain.

We were unable to learn a great deal about Blushing Red from what was ultimately a sprint for home but now he has won his Maiden he can have a break and return to action on the turf in handicap company. The handicapper cannot punish him for this win and he is likely to have a mark in the low to mid 70s judging him on his second at Wolverhampton. A faster run race will allow him to relax and hopefully we will then be able to unlock further improvement from him.

Congratulations to Mr Arculli, this is his second La Grange trained winner of 2017 and after a good year last season we hope he will once more have a lot of success this campaign. This was our sixth winner of the year and the last nine runners have all been in the first three so the horses are running well. Let us hope this can continue into the turf season which is now only three weeks away.
