Apex Comes Out On Top

Tue 21 June 2016

Apex King was making his second appearance on a racecourse in the seven furlong Novice Stakes at Newmarket last Saturday. The son of Kodiac shaped with a lot of promise at Leicester when finishing in the mid division having broken slowly from a disadvantageous draw. We hoped he would improve on that run and felt that the step up in trip would be beneficial. He was smartly away and was soon tracking the leaders in the early part of the race. As the pace quickened entering the final two furlongs it looked like our colt may be booked for third but entering the final furlong he really began to stay on and he collared the favourite Hyde Park close to the line.

It was a very encouraging performance from Apex King and the style of this victory suggested that he will stay a mile easily in time. He was very professional and showed a great attitude to get his head in front where it mattered, David Probert felt he would appreciate a better surface too. The third horse had a good level of form and the front three were nicely clear of the remainder which is very encouraging when assessing the strength of the race.

Congratulations to Mr Mohammed Jaber who owns Apex King, we hope he is the first of many two year old winners for you this year trained out of La Grange. Manjaam also ran very well for Mr Jaber on Saturday when a slightly unlucky second in the Ulster Derby at Down Royal. Well done to all the team, everyone is working hard and it is fantastic to have a fourth two year old winner in 2016.
