Alem Storms Home At Yarmouth

Fri 07 July 2017

It was touch and go whether racing at the Norfolk seaside venue would continue yesterday after a vicious storm hit the track. Lightning struck the trucks that provided the television pictures but after a half an hour delay racing at Yarmouth resumed. The ground changed from good to firm to soft after torrential rain accompanied the lightning storm and whilst we were happy to see some rain, we were worried that the heavens may have unleashed a little more precipitation than we desired.

Alemaratalyoum had come back to form at Goodwood and we were hopeful that it was a sign that he was back on an upwardly mobile path. He had handled soft ground in a Newbury Maiden last term and so we hoped that whilst not ideal, he would handle a soft surface. Luke Morris let him relax in the early exchanges and the pace upfront was even at best. The pace started to quicken entering the final two furlongs and our horses initially got tapped for toe. He stuck on well as he drifted across to the stands side rails and kept findng under the Luke Morris drive. Thankfully he got on top close to the line and beat Gunmaker by a head.

This was a gutsy performance from the son of Lope De Vega and it was fantastic to see him record his second career success. The handicapper cannot be too hard on him given the proximity of the second and the third and he should stay within the 0-75 bracket. He is likely to stay one mile and that could draw out further improvement from him although a stiff seven on good ground could prove to be his absolute optimum conditions.

Congratulations to his owner Mr Mohammed Jaber who is one of our biggest supporters here at La Grange. We are very pleased that Alemaratalyoum has come back to form and we hope he can remain competitive off of his new mark. Well done to everyone here at La Grange, we are building some momentum and let us hope we can keep it going. We’d also like to wish Skye Gilbert a speedy recovery as she had a nasty accident today but hopefully it will not prove to be as bad as it first appeared and she will be back with us soon.
