Wagtail

Bay Filly
DOB: 08 Feb 2003
Cape Cross (IRE) x Dancing Feather (Suave Dancer)

Wagtail is a half-sister to multiple winners and she is out of Dancing Feather, who won once as a four-year-old. She is from the family of English Spring, whose seven victories included the Group 2 Prince Of Wales's Stakes and the Group 3 Premio Bagutta. She is also related to Spring Oak, who won the Group 3 Prix Cleopatre and was third in the Grade 1 EP Taylor Stakes.

Wagtail broke her maiden tag at the first time of asking as a three-year-old, when scoring over 1m at Lingfield. We were delighted when she became a Pattern winner on her last start of the season when winning the Listed Rosemary Stakes at Ascot.

Wagtail took a long time to come to herself as a four-year-old and did not make her reappearance until July. She went to Ascot for the Listed Valient Stakes and ran well to finish fourth, just getting a little tired in the final furlong. She then ran in Listed Dick Hern Stakes at Bath and ran well to finish third under a 5lb penalty.

She was given a break after this before going to Newmarket for a 1m2f Listed race. She ran a solid race but did not stay, so we dropped her back to 1m for her last run at Lingfield in the Fleur De Lys Stakes. She was held up early on before making good headway two furlongs out. She stayed on well in the final stages and finished third. Wagtail has then retired to her owner's stud.
