Surprise Encounter

Chesnut Gelding
DOB: 07 Feb 1996
Cadeaux Genereux x Scandalette (Niniski)

Surprise encounter, at the ripe old age of seven, was retired from racing in 2003. He ran admirably throughout his career and enjoyed his best moment when winning the Royal Hunt Cup, under Frankie Dettori, at Royal Ascot in 2001. He joined Deep Space, one of our other Royal Ascot winners, at Tessa Westlake's ex-racehorse rehoming scheme in Somerset after his racing days were over.

Surprise Encounter is a half-brother to Gateman, who won the Group 3 Emirates Airline Minstrel Stakes as a five-year-old and who won the Group 3 Diomed Stakes the following season.

Surprise Encounter is from the family of Group 1 July Cup winner Polish Patriot and Maria Waleska - the Champion Three-Year-Old in Italy in 1979.
