Roxy Art

Filly
DOB: 27 Apr 2016
Dutch Art x Chicago Girl (Azamour)
Owner: Mrs S Roy

This filly is by the Prix Morny and Middle Park winner and 2,000 Guineas third Dutch Art. He has produced the Gr.1 winners Slade Power and Garswood amongst numerous high-quality offspring. The dam of this filly, Chicago Girl, was Gr.3-placed in Ireland and is a sibling of numerous smart performers, such as the Listed winner Army Of Angels

With such a pedigree it is hoped that Roxy Art can go on to prove herself a fair performer. She certainly made good steps in that direction on her Lingfield debut. She was too green to do herself justice in the early stages, taking in everything on her first racecourse experience. Fran Berry sensibly gave her an educational ride, and the filly responded by running on in eye-catching fashion in the home straight, ultimately beaten just a length and a quarter into fourth. She returned to the same venue on her next appearance, only to be handed the widest draw of all, which compromised her chances. Added to that, she missed the break, but still ran on in determined fashion to take fifth.

Those runs set her up nicely to get off the mark at Chelmsford in early August, storming to an impressive success under Rab Havlin. We decided to chance our arm in a valuable nursery next time out, stepping up to seven furlongs at Newmarket. Roxy once again ran a huge race, hitting the front inside the final furlong, but ultimately just giving best to the well-bred and highly promising Star Terms. It was deemed worth attempting to get some black-type following that run, but unfortunately Roxy Art found Gr.3 waters too deep in the Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury.

A tough and genuine filly, she will surely bounce back very soon.
