This horse has just improved and improved and he finally claimed a Group 1 for his already impressive resume when winning the Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin. After a disappointing Melbourne Cup 2012 result due to a lack of pace in the race, this fellow went on to Japan where he ran well even after he had been struck into and finished 8th. To come out a fortnight later and win a Group 1 is testament to how tough this horse is. He has the heart of a lion and never knows when to give up.

Melbourne Cup 2011 was heartbreaking when he was beaten 3 megapixels into 2nd and hopes were high going there in 2012 but it was not to be; a bad draw and a slowly run race all put paying to his chances. Third in the 2011 Irish St Leger, he has rounded off an amazing year which included a 2nd in the Sagaro Stakes (G3), a win in the Yorkshire Cup (G2) as well as a third in the Hardwicke (G2) at Royal Ascot.

He ran an amazing race when finishing runner up to Animal Kingdom in the Dubai World Cup and followed this up running third in the Tenno Sho (Spring) Grade 1 in Japan.

Red Cadeaux had another fantastic season in 2013 where he ran second in the Geoffrey Freer with a Group One penalty and fourth in the Irish St Leger.

The Irish St Leger acted as his prep race before running another incredible race in the Melbourne Cup where he finished second to Fiorente, beaten three quarters of a length. This was a fantastic effort by Red Cadeuax as he was drawn 23 of 24 and had to carry near top weight.

After a tough race in Melbourne, Red Cadeaux travelled to Hong Kong for another crack at the Hong Kong Vase. He ran creditably in fourth place beaten two and a half lengths by Dominant.

Red Cadeaux ran another solid race in the 2014 Dubai World Cup finishing sixth behind African Story.  He did not like the fast ground at Kyoto. Red Cadeaux had a little break after Japan and made his come back at Newbury in the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes where he ran a fantastic race finishing fourth, only being beaten 1 length, a neck and a nose.

In Novemember Red Cadeaux returned to Australia for the 2014 Emirates Melbourne Cup where he claimed his third second place in the race following the same result in 2011 and 2013. Here he ran another superb race and was in front two furlongs out finding only Protectionist too good to beat. As one of the eldest horses in the race he was always going to be susceptible to younger competition yet admirably fought off the remaining field of 20.

A month later he made the familiar journey from Melbourne to Hong Kong to return for the Hong Kong Vase. Although a valiant effort as always from Red Cadeaux, the slow pace of the race didn't suit him and he finished sixth.

Red Cadeaux has run twice in Britain this summer, finishing sixth in the Hardwicke Stakes on ground too fast, but he turned in another fine performance in the Goeffrey Freer, finishing third having travelled smoothly throughout before blowing up close home. He remains firmly on the path back to Melbourne.
