Iktamal is from the family of Rose Bowl, who won the Group 1 Champion Stakes, Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and was Champion Older Mare in England. He is a half-brother to Crystal Cross, a useful middle-distance filly, and Grade 1 Arkensas Derby winner Rockamundo.
Iktamal won seven times during his 21-race career, breaking his maiden in the August of his three-year-old career, and he would go on to enjoy a prolific autumn that year, notching three more successes including victory in the ultra-competitive William Hill Sprint Cup at Goodwood.
As a four-year-old, Iktamal would elevate his career to new heights, landing a maiden Pattern success when winning in Group 3 company at Newcastle in the July. His career highlight would come six weeks later as he fended off an 11-strong field to land the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock, surging to lead under Willie Ryan having been held-up early.
He ran once more, finishing sixth in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint, and was subsequently retired to Summerhill Stud in South Africa.
