Global Warning

Bay Gelding
DOB: 19 Apr 2016
Poet's Voice x Persario (Bishop Of Cashel)
Owner: Dr Johnny Hon

This colt is the son of the gr.1 QE II winner Poet's Voice, who is himself a son of Dubawi. He produced the Gr.1 placed Poet's Word and is starting to make a real name for himself, but sadly he p[assed away not too long ago.

The dam Persario was a dual winner over 6f and 7f but it is as a broodmare that she has come to the fore. She has produced the Gr.1 Diamond Jubilee and Gr.1 British Champions Sprint winner The Tin Man, and the joint Champion European Sprinter Deacon Blues, who also won the British Champions Sprint.

Despite that speedy pedigree, all reports from his riders in the morning indicated that he wanted to start off at seven-furlongs. So that is exactly what we did, and he showed promise to finish third to the now 100-rated Swissterious at Doncaster in July. We thought he might be hard to beat on his second start, again over seven, at Lingfield a month later. Sent off the 5/4 favourite, it was a disappointment to see him well beaten into second by the Richard Hannon trained Kuwait Currency.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course, and Kuwait Currency proved the form to be extremely worthwhile when winning the Listed Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury and finishing fifth to Too Darn Hot in the Dewhurst. Clearly we had run into a smart colt, so there remains a lot to look forward to with Global Warning going forward, particularly as he hails from a family that improves with age.

Global Warning got his three-year-old campaign underway with a good third at Kempton, before getting off the mark with a very authoritative performance on his first try in handicap company at Newcastle in April. That run hinted at better things to come, so we have to hope that this handsome and well-bred horse can continue to climb through the ranks.
