Global Destination

DOB: 06 Mar 2016
Slade Power x Silk Trail (Dubai Destination)
Owner: Mr Paul Turner

This colt was a 260,000gns purchase and is another of the Slade Power's here at La Grange. His father was all about speed and won the Gr.1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes and the Gr.1 July Cup. He has already been represented by a couple of winners from a relatively small pool of runners so far from his first crop.

Global Destination is out of the Dubai Destination mare Silk Trail, a Darley-bred half-sister to the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes winner and sire Lujain, who won over seven furlongs. Their dam Satin Flower won the Gr.3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot and was Gr.1-placed, whilst the extended family features the Gr.1 Santa Anita Handicap winner Martial Law

He made his debut in August 2018 in a Yarmouth maiden over six-furlongs, showing plenty of promise to finish fifth, beaten only four-and-a-quarter lengths, and attracting some positive comments from race readers. The first three home are now rated 90, 96 and 86 resepectively, so it was a warm enough contest, but the early stages of Destination's three-year-old campaign were not overly convincing.

However, we gave him a full MOT, which included a wind procedure and gelding operation, and he has come back a new animmal. A fine victory at Newbury was followed up by a cosy success at Brighton, and it is hoped that there is more to come.

He has shown a liking for soft ground and, although his two wins so far have been over seven-furlongs, there remains the possibility that he might yet appreciate a step up to a mile in due course. He is another horse to have changed ownership mid-season, and he now runs in the grey and blue silks of Paul and Nikki Turner. It is hoped that when the rain arrives later in the year that he can pay his way in his new colours.
